I finally found a gray hair. I'll be 36 in 4 months and this is the first time since I was a teen-ager that I saw a gray hair in my head. Jen has been gray for years, but in sparse places thoughtout her head. It's a short lil' ole' thing aout an inch or so and it's curly and coarse like all gray hair usually is.

Wow, It's been a while since I posted. Here's a writing exercise I penned last week.
“I got it!”, Mary shouted as she jumped to her feet, running into the house and into the bedroom she and her sister Jenny shared. Jenny was lying on the bed, head nestled in her pillow.
“You got what?”
“An idea for a tournament we can have with all the girls in the neighborhood. We can maybe see if Mr. Green at the Quick Check can donate a prize for the winner. This should be fun. You can tell Alvena, Cynthia, Joveeda and…”
“Hold up, girl. You haven’t even told me what kind of tournament you are talking about. More information please.” She flipped her body over, tucking the pillow behind her head.
“Oh, my bad. I forgot to say. Jacks! A Jacks tournament!” Mary pulled a handful of steel jacks with multi-colored knobby ends out of one pocket and a soft red ball a little smaller than a golf ball out of the other pocket. She had on a yellow and white stripped halter top and a pair of dingy khaki shorts with white side laced sandals on. It was the third day since school had let out for summer break and Mary was itching for something fun and constructive to do.
Pacing the floor, throwing the ball in the air and catching it, she thought, about how much fun the tournament would be, how many girls would possible participate, and how this could be the start of an annual event. Mary pulled out a piece of tablet paper from her backpack and began scribbling tournament ideas.
Usually Mary and her sister Jennifer’s summer routine would be spent at summer camp. “Too bad we’re not going to Camp Kachina this year.”
“Yeah, I wish we hadn’t turned in our registration late. I’m gonna miss all my friends from last year.” Mary plopped down on the floor bulldozing the jacks with the red ball. “I’ll miss the hay rides, roasting hotdogs and smores by the campfire, singing fun sing-a-longs, horseback riding, and sleeping out in the woods with those big ole mosquitoes. I heard one year this girl saw a red fox and a bear cub.”
“They don’t have bears in the woods in Texas, girl. Somebody lied to you. If that were true, that would have been cool to see, but I don’t believe it.”
“Foxes and bears have rabies.”
“Stop it.”
“OK. I’m just playing. All I know is we need to have this tournament so we’ll have something to do and I’ll have something to talk about when school starts back. So, Jenny, are you gonna help me organize it or what?”
Jenny lay on the bed looking over her volleyball practice and game schedule for the Fall. “I’m in middle school now, girl. I don’t mess around with kiddy games like ‘Jacks’ anymore. I’m sure you can find some of your buddies in the neighborhood to help you. I don’t think my friends would be interested either.”
“No I want you to help me! Please Jenny, please!”
“No.” Jenny always had a way of getting Mary to do many things she wasn’t willing to do herself or had never experienced herself. Mary was her guinea pig. After the girls learned how to swim, they’d go swimming by themselves without their Mom or Dad. One day, they went to Lion’s Park. Lion’s Park had a one hundred foot Super Slide, Putt-putt golf, Go-karts, and bumper boats. But what the girls enjoyed most was the Olympic sized pool with a forty foot high dive. Jenny had never taken a dive off the “big dive”, as they called it, but told Mary to jump off it two summers ago.
“Jump.”
“No, I’m scared.”
“Don’t be scared. It’s just like jumping in from the side, cept’ it’s only a little higher off the ground.”
“Higher! That diving board is touching the sun and the clouds. No!” Mary’s teeth were chattering and she was shivering from water and wind kissing against her wet bathing suit.
“Girl, don’t be scared, you can do it.”
“Have you ever done it before?” Mary asked while peering to the top of the towering steel monument with the gray trampoline board sticking out its tongue to her from below. Her eyes were watering from the sting of the chlorine as well as the sun and fear that was slowly creeping in her mind.
“Yeah, girl. I’ve jumped in many times before.” Jen lied.
Now Mary was trapped. She knew if her big sister had already dove in, she had to, too. The walk to the ladder that led to the top of the diving board felt like a journey up a mountain to an anticipated death. Mary drug her feet and kept looking back at her sister with every step. Finally to the top, she was ready to make her plunge. "I'm not gonna be scared," she told herself.
With eyes closed, Mary took a deep breath and jumped into the deep dark blue watery grave, death knocking at her door in her mind more than in her body. Initially her body felt like a feather floating in the air when she jumped off the flexible board, but then upon the decent she immediately turned to a human torpedo. Eyes and mouth wide open, arms and legs flailing, she plummeted. The weight of her body yanked her to the bottom of the pool. She opened her eyes only to see a dark abyss with only her and the lonely water below. She began kicking her legs and swinging her arms like an octopus to free herself from the liquid casket. Gasping for breath as her face touched air again, she wiggled like a fish to the side of the pool. Jenny held her hand out to help her baby sister up the ladder and on to dry concrete land again.
“Whoa! That was fun!”
“Was you scared?”
“Yeah, but since I’m still alive, I think I want to do it again. But this time Jenny, you go first.”
And so Jenny was able to talk her sister into doing things she didn’t want to do, but this time when the shoe was on the other foot for Mary, she had no luck. Jenny wouldn’t budge. Hurt and embarrassed, she scooped up the jacks and ball and slid them back into the pockets of her shorts and slowly walked out the bedroom door dragging her bottom lip under her sandals along the hardwood floors.

Ok, I have not updated daily like I wanted to for the Master Cleanse. A lot has been going on. I will say that we started out with four folks and are down to two. LaShawn dropped off somewhere after day two and I think Felicia made it to day 3 1/2 or so. I commend them for their desire to cleanse themselves internally. They both assured me that they were going to do it again and shoot for the whole ten days. It's a very heady experience so I understand how hard it can be to make such a commitment. Food and it's power over the body is almost no different than anyone addicted to cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, or the dreaded T.V. Take any of those things away and see if you have control over them, or they have control over you.
Surprisingly enough, Jen and I are still in the game. Jen, who normally cheats, has to receive the Honorable Mention Bigups award this time around. She's been most faithful and committed. There's been next to no murmuring and complaining really on either of our parts. She's done the sea salt cleanse and smooth move more than me. The first day on the sea salt cleanse, I threw up. That was the first time I did that, so that did not get me off to a good start. I only had the sea salt cleanse one other time and then this morning. I think I'm on my 5th trip to the toilet already.
We made it to and from Houston for my aunt's funeral this past weekend and had no trouble turning down plates of food. We have more than our share of large women in our family, so it's usually inferred that we are "crazy" for not eating. We both have a small body frame for our size and height.
We did make a pit stop on the way into Houston, near Prairie View. There was this very busy Shell station that had a lil' shortstop restaurant. The parking lot was full, and it wasn't because the gas was cheap. They were serving some awfully great smelling Barbeque Chicken. The folks standing in line for their to-go plate were self-assigned spokespersons on how good the food was. Jen and I planned on stopping back by before heading home to purchase some and freeze it so we could eat it after getting off the cleanse. We missed the exit and were a bit disappointed, but hey, we'll know better the next go around into Houston.
Jen's still in the bed a sleep. Yesterday was exhausting for me. I had a detox moment in the middle of the day while over a friend's house. I just fell out. It's to be expected because this "stuff" inside me is pretty pee-od that I'm doing something to get rid of it!

Well, Jen and I finally got all our supplies to do the master cleanse again. We started tonight with Smooth Move Chocolate from Traditinal Medicinals. This time we have Felicia and LaShawn on board to do it with us. This is Felicia's second time and LaShawn's first. The cleanse is well over due because I was starting to feel a lil' under the weather and on top of that, my energy level has been way down. I plan on journaling my and Jen's cleanse journey so check back.
Nite!

I've been doing quite well for over a year as far as health is concerned. Since moving back home to Texas and with the change of climate, life style and eating habits, my body is reacting in some ways. For starters, my rash on my thighs is back. The best thing about doing the 10-day master cleanse was that by day three the rash disappeared, which was phenomenal. Now that it is back, it's only an indication that still, I have been consuming something that makes it come back.
I've found that I have to stay away from dairy, which includes soy milk as well. It may be something in the bread, which is probably what I haven't done so good a job at monitoring. The reaction to me consuming dairy is almost instant, so I ration intake of dairy, or if I'm rebellious, I know the consequences upon consumption.
Since I have long nails, it's the itching and scratching that I'm most concerned with. In my sleep I can possibly do major damage by scratching. So with that being said, I need to get my arsenal out and pick a date as to when the journey will begin again. I'm not sure if Mom or Jen will participate, which might make it a bit difficult seeings how we are all out here together. Mom just fried up some turkey bacon about an hour ago and the scent is still lingering. We'll see. Nonetheless, I'll go ahead and journal this again on my lj and try some of the other "suggestions" I've picked up in the past to get a super scrubbing on my insides. Well, I'm out for now!

I am pretty happy I have my website up and running. I started working on it around the 12th of June. I am considering changing hosting sites and need to make a decision before the end of the month. I currently am using web.com, which up until I got my website up and running I was very dissatisfied with them. I was recommended to go with either 1and1.com or godaddy.com. We'll see. Until otherwise notified, I'll stay with web.com. My website is Maryee's Place. If you check out my website, don't forget to sign my guestbook and let me know what you think.

2. Your amazing liver - part 2
Possible Symptoms of Liver Dysfunction:
· Poor digestion · Excessive amounts of hormones (The liver deactivates them and is, in fact, the most important organ for hormone regulation.) · Increased cholesterol levels · Abdominal bloating or tenderness in the liver area · Acne, skin rashes, itching, or jaundice (yellow tinge to skin) · Constipation · Fatigue (low energy) · Loss of appetite · Bitter or metallic taste in the mouth · Split ends (hair) · Brittle nails · Mood swings (due to large swings in blood sugar) · Hemorrhoids or varicose veins (due to liver congestion producing pressure on the veins) · Pain in the back between the shoulder blades · Inability to digest fats · Water retention in the legs · Muscle pain when inflating a blood pressure cuff around the calf · Gallbladder problems · Sleep disorders · Heart palpitations or even heart attacks (All the blood to the heart goes through the liver. So, if it's congested the heart may not get as much blood as it needs.) · Poor memory · Allergies · Arthritis · Thyroid problems · Frequent numbness in the extremities · Frequent infection · Fainting · Night blindness or blurry sight (The Chinese say that the liver is the river into the eyes. Clean and nutrient-rich blood flows into and nourishes the eyes.)
Common Causes of Liver Dysfunction:
I. Diet · Fried foods, animal fats, hydrogenated vegetable fat (margarine, etc.), too much vegetable oil, and roasted nuts can congest the liver. · The tannic acid in tea and BHA (a common food additive) are bad for the liver. · B vitamin deficiency can compromise the liver. · Too much meat, gluten, or soy protein overworks the liver because the metabolism of protein creates ammonia as a by product, which the liver must convert to urea for excretion by way of the kidneys. · Refined sugar decreases the ability of the liver to breakdown excess triglycerides, which causes elevated triglyceride and cholesterol levels. · Artificial sweeteners have caused liver damage. · Alcohol causes cirrhosis of the liver. · Tobacco and caffeine are also detoxified by the liver and can overwork it.
II. Drugs · Ferrous sulfate as an iron supplement can damage the liver. · Strong medications, cleaning solutions, soaps, deodorants, birth control pills, pesticides, herbicides, food additives, polluted air and water, etc. can overtax the liver and damage it. · Cortisone, carbon tetrachloride and tetracycline can all cause liver damage. · Medical drugs are another important cause of liver disease.
III. Compromise of other organs · Pressure on the nerve from the spinal cord to the liver can cause liver dysfunction. · Problems with the other organs of elimination (colon, kidneys, lungs, or skin) can overload the liver by giving it more work to do. · A major cause of liver dysfunction is a clogged, toxic bowel resulting in constipation. This overworks the liver causes it to be congested and sluggish.
The liver detoxifies most of the poisons we consume and breathe in daily. The liver reaches a saturation point and then causes symptoms. One person, constantly exposed to toxic chemicals, ate a diet high in fatty foods: corn chips, vegetable oil, peanut butter, and fried foods. He broke out with a skin rash and hemorrhoids. His liver could not handle the chemicals and the fatty foods. After some acupressure and eliminating the oils from his diet, his symptoms cleared up. A few months later, he went back to eating fatty foods and his symptoms returned until he cleaned up his diet again.
Often Recommended Means of Prevention and Treatment of Liver Dysfunction:
· The Master Cleanse · Beets, black radish, and dark greens are all very cleansing to the liver. The juice of one-half a large beet daily will help. (More can be too cleansing and cause nausea.) · The juice of one-half lemon in a glass of warm water drunk on arising every morning will help cleanse the liver. · For three months, do not consume fried foods, roasted nuts, peanut butter, vegetable oil, margarine, meat, alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, chocolate, medications (if possible), spices, or synthetic vitamins and minerals. Keep sugar and concentrated sweets to a minimum. · Drink a lot of water and get plenty of exercise to help stimulate the channels of elimination. · Live where there is clean air and water. · Avoid sprayed foods, harsh cleansers, deodorants, food additives, etc. · If you have pain between the shoulder blades, a sedentary job or bad posture, have a chiropractor check for nerve pressure. · For breaking up liver congestion, dip a piece of flannel or cotton in warm castor oil, set it on the liver and cover it with plastic. Secure it in place and use overnight. Do this three times over two weeks.
To be continued...
